Bio
Velia is a songwriter, producer and vocalist specializing in dance, pop, and rock
music with cliche-free lyrics, written from a girl's perspective.
As an accomplished vocalist herself, the role of vocal producer comes naturally to her, and she thrives on working collaboratively with other female artists in particular.
In addition to having written songs for various artists, Velia has also written pieces for computer games and corporate video, commissioned by clients including Johnson & Johnson, Cadence, Blue Water Software and Techhand.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Velia was a member of the Australian Theater for Young People for three years before moving on to take vocal lessons from Australian superstar Marcia Hines. She toured with various Top 40 cover bands before forming 2/4 Groove, which went on to win an opening spot for Sony recording artist, Margaret Urlich.
After relocating to San Francisco, CA in 1995, Velia penned material for her first original band. The band recorded "Something Has to Change" and promoted it by making television appearances on "Showcase" and "The Show", and by playing the Bay Area club scene. Due to additional exposure afforded by the internet, the CD received accolades from countries such as Brazil, Sweden, China and Australia, and the single "Joining Up" aired on college radio stations from Russia to Indianapolis, U.S.A..
These days, Velia is enjoying being in front of the mixing console instead of behind the mic. Her knowledge of the craft of singing has proven to be invaluable in the studio, where she is able to communicate with vocalists in their own language. She is currently collaborating with some of San Francisco's brightest talent and is bound to turn heads with her unapologetically feminine approach to songwriting.
